H1N1 Flu – What Is Your Defense To Live Healthy Part I

What is the H1N1 Flu? Let’s talk about what it is and how you can arm yourself against it.

The influenza A virus subtype H1N1, also known as A(H1N1) or the swine flu, is a subtype of influenza virus A and the most common cause of influenza (flu) in humans. Some strains of H1N1 are endemic in humans, including the strain(s) responsible for the 1918 flu pandemic which killed 50-100 million people worldwide.

This new virus was first detected in people in the United States in April 2009. This virus is spreading from person-to-person worldwide, probably in much the same way that regular seasonal influenza viruses spread.

This virus was originally referred to as “swine flu” because laboratory testing showed that many of the genes in this new virus were very similar to influenza viruses that normally occur in pigs (swine) in North America. But further study has shown that this new virus is very different from what normally circulates in North American pigs. It has two genes from flu viruses that normally circulate in pigs in Europe and Asia and bird (avian) genes and human genes. Scientists call this a "quadruple resistant" virus.
Spread of 2009 H1N1 virus is thought to occur in the same way that seasonal flu spreads. Flu viruses are spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing by people with influenza. Sometimes people may become infected by touching something – such as a surface or object – with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.
Can I get 2009 H1N1 more than once?
Getting infected with any influenza virus, including 2009 H1N1, should cause your body to develop immune resistance to that virus so it's not likely that a person would be infected with the identical influenza virus more than once. However, people with weakened immune systems might not develop full immunity after infection and might be more likely to get infected with the same influenza virus more than once.
However, it's also possible that a person could have a positive test result for flu infection more than once in an influenza season. This can occur for two reasons:
1. A person may be infected with different influenza viruses (for example, the first time with 2009 H1N1 and the second time with a regular seasonal flu virus. Most rapid tests cannot distinguish which influenza virus is responsible for the illness.
2. Influenza tests can occasionally give false positive and false negative results so it's possible that one of the test results were incorrect. This kills your white T-cells, which is your immune system. Without a high T-cell count, your body can’t live.

Focus on eating live organic foods, which are your fruits and vegetables with seeds. Organic foods are grown with the absence of pesticides and harmful chemicals. Therefore, this will not pass on diseases and conditions like cancer diabetes and any condition that would weaken the immune system.

It is important to eat fruits and vegetables with seeds in them because they will protect your immune system by building up our white T-cells. You get that from live organic fruits and vegetables. Fruits that are high in antioxidant can only be found in fruits and vegetable with seeds. Seedless fruits and vegetables are hybrid grown. They are developed first in laboratories, but have no antiviral phytonutrients for building up the immune system while eliminating free radicals. They in fact, have a high content of artificial sugars and decreases bone density while increasing the chances of arthritis. Free radicals lower our autoimmune response in our body.

Berries and Fruits

Berries and a variety of fruits with seeds are high in antioxidants and fiber which builds the immune system. Know your source of these live foods to get the maximum benefit for your body’s immunity building strength.

Eating as much of raw fruits and vegetables will maintain their high vitamin content.
Using a pressure cooker will maintain a high content of your vegetables nutrition.

Meat in the diet should not be a daily option unless you are eating hormone free or organic fed animals. Unless you know the source of where your meat was processed such as Whole Foods or you farm raised your meat and produce, be aware of your food sources. This includes your fruits and vegetables.

Nuts
Nuts in the diet have strong benefits to increasing our health. In 2003, the FDA recognized the benefits of nuts and their role in heart disease prevention by approving a health claim for seven kinds of nuts. These nuts were approved as they are the only kinds that contain less than 4g of saturated fats per 50g.
Nuts are one of the best plant sources of protein. They are rich in fiber phytonutrients and antioxidants such as vitamin E and selenium. Nuts are high in plant sterols and fats- but mostly monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (omega 3 –have good fats which have all been shown to lower LDL cholesterol. People that eat nuts regularly have lower risks of heart disease.
